Statement on Cholera Outbreak In Haiti

Home  /  News  /  Current Page

Haiti’s President and medical officials have confirmed an outbreak of cholera north of the capital Port-au-Prince. We do not anticipate this affecting people traveling with Partners In Development or our programs at the medical clinic.

Cholera is spread by a person drinking water or eating food contaminated by the bacterium. For our travelers’ protection, Partners In Development has always used our own protected food and water sources to ensure health protection. Cholera is neither contagious nor can be passed from one individual to another.

Additionally, the outbreak is located north of Port-au-Prince and is not in an area our travelers visit. We expect that now that the Haitian government has identified the outbreak, it will be contained quickly.

Cholera is a very treatable acute intestinal infection. The main treatment recommend for cholera is rehydration for the patient.
