About this Gift

One of the most basic ways to improve a person’s life is to ensure that they have somewhere to eat, sleep, and live. The absence of proper housing can lead to worms, parasites, and exposure to fecal matter, resulting in diarrhea, anemia, malnutrition, and delayed cognitive functioning. Unfortunately, housing is not always guaranteed. Through Partners in Development’s Emergency Housing Program, Mothers and children in Haiti and Guatemala who are homeless can receive a small, safe, starter house with a water filter and stove. This will protect them from weather and other hazards presented by lack of proper housing. As the family pays back their mortgage, the funds go directly to building more emergency houses for families in need. So far, PID has built over 200 houses in Guatemala and Haiti, and continues to grow that number every year.
